Neuromuscular Dentistry Courses in India

Neuromuscular Dentistry is a form of dentistry that involves correcting dysfunctions of misalignment to reduce the stress placed on the muscles that connect tissues to the jaw. The jaw is realigned by reducing the stress and tension that's placed on the muscles and bones.
The procedure

The procedure involves the examination of the jaw using several computerized instruments to measure the jaw movements and jaw muscles to determine the extent of the problem. After determining the extent of problem dentist establish a ''physiologic rest position'' for jaw to reduce the stress on the muscles connected to the hard tissue within the jaw joint.

NMD is a theory that changes the occlusion relieving the condylar pressure from the retodiscal pad in the TMJ space and relaxing the hypertonic facial muscles. Thus NMD helps to eliminate headache and neck-ache

NMD (Neuromuscular Dentistry) Courses at ICPRI

While conventional dentistry deals with an evaluation of teeth, gums and bones, they are often inadequate to deal with the nuances of temporomandibular joint and other related disorders. Neuromuscular Dentistry (NMD) is a field of dentistry which deals with muscles and nerves that help in the positioning and movement of jaws and jaw joints.
NMD is a holistic approach towards treatment of temporomandibular disorders without involving surgical procedures. They involve the reprogramming the muscles of mastication and helps with the treatment of sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnoea.

The decision to learn NMD (Neuromuscular Dentistry) course would enable a dentist to widen his scope of work to efficient correction of misalignments in jaws, nerves, muscles, joints and teeth. It helps in dealing with temporomandibular disorders more effectively. This is achieved by NMD with a thorough evaluation of the relationship between TMJ, nerves and muscles.
Scope of NMD
NMD offers a permanent solution for pains and discomforts caused due to TMD and bite issues, which cannot be treated effectively with conventional dentistry. The other benefits of the field include the following: -
  • Use of Ultra Low Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation (ULF-TENS) for the relief from pain or muscle spasms caused due to TMD.
  • Use of orthotic to stabilise the alignment of jaws.
  • Use of permanent bite stabilisation methods like Coronoplasty, Removable Overlay Partials, advanced orthodontics and so on.
NMD (Neuromuscular Dentistry) Course at ICPRI
Indra Craniofacial Pain Relief India Pvt Limited (ICPRI), offers NMD courses with the aim to promote the science for a physiological approach for correction of NMD and obstructive sleep apnoea. Say Good Bye Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder wherein you might feel breathing pauses, here the process of breathing becomes shallow at times. It might suddenly return to normalcy, after a small break, with a choke or a loud snort. This might result in you being left behind with a poor and uneven sleep, resulting in tiredness all the day.
Waking up suddenly from sleep after losing breath or choking during sleep and loud snoring are all considered to be signs of sleep apnea. The tendency to sleep during daytime and fatigue are also signs of sleep apnea.

Overweight can be a reason for sleep apnea. Age and thickness of the neck are regarded as the causes for sleep apnea. People who are fat or obese are highly likely to have this disorder. People, older than 50 years of age, are also said to have a higher possibility of picking up sleep apnea. Experts believe that people with their neck circumference greater than 40cm might also become sleep apnea patients.
The treatment for this disorder is usually decided only after conclusions are made whether it has come with some complementary disorders like diabetes, heart diseases, blood pressure or even a stroke. Changes in the life style, use of mouth pieces or breathing devices or surgeries are the available treatments for sleep apnSaea.

We Provide Better TMJ Pain Care

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Syndrome is a pain in the jaw joint that can be caused by a variety of medical problems. The TMJ connects the lower jaw to the skull in front of the ear. Certain facial muscles that control chewing are also attached to the lower jaw. It is a disorder of the temporomandibular joint that causes pain, usually in front of the ear, sometimes in the form of a headache.

Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome Symptoms

TMJ pain causes dull, aching pain, which comes and goes in the jaw joint and nearby areas other common symptoms of TMJ disorder includes:
  • Pain in your face, jaw joint area, shoulders, and neck and in or around the ear when you speak, chew, or open your mouth wide
  • Limited movement of jaws and jaws that get locked while opening or  closing the mouth
  • Painful clicking, popping, or grating sounds are experienced in the jaw joint when you open or close your mouth or chew
  • Stiffness in the jaw muscle
  • Trouble chewing or uncomfortable feeling while biting as if the upper and lower teeth are not fitting together properly
  • Earache, headache, migraine or blocked sensation in the ear
  • Tinnitus and vision problems
Causes of Temporomandibular Joint(TMJ) Syndrome

Pain in the TMJ can be due to trauma such as a blow to the face, inflammatory or degenerative arthritis, poor dental work, or structural defects that push the mandible back towards the ears whenever the patient chews or swallows. Grinding or clenching the teeth due to stress is a frequent culprit. Sometimes, muscles around the TMJ used for mastication will get caught in a spasm, causing head and neck pain, and problem gaps between the teeth.

Treatment for Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome

A Doctor can diagnose TMJ syndrome by taking the patient's case history and doing a physical test to search out the reason for the symptoms. There are no specific reason that define TMJ syndrome through diagnosing just by taking a look. A doctor could send the patient to an oral and external body part specialist, an ENT specialist (also referred to as an ear, nose, and throat doctor) or a medical man specializing in jaw disorders. Sometimes a magnetic resonance imaging of the articulation temporomandibular is also ordered to discover injury to the gristle of the jaw joint and to rule out alternative medical issues.
